Makes one wonder if it was to create a crisis to bring about a police state.

One might, if one were an idiot.

@joefromchicago,
It doesn't answer the question why do it as they were downtrodden but had a future to look forward to? If they were intelligent they would know they could be identified with iphones. Maybe they are the potential Darwin Award winners ready for a fall.

@joefromchicago,
There was the spreading of looting by social media which were untraceable - BBM the Blackberry Messenger. Only the knowledgeable would know this feature. Businessmen use Blackberry or the rich. The seeding of a riot was helped by a lack of police response in the early stages. This smacks of a game changing response of whole sale legislation after a crisis. GWB let the 911 to introduce the Patriot Act. Remember Cameron announced earlier in the year that Multiculturalism failed in Britain. A Muslim child was run over by a car. Also, the Muslims are urged to take part in the riots.

much of the rioting is fueled by something other than financial desperation, the ubiquity of expensive BlackBerrys among the organizers surely fills the bill.

@Questioner,
Blackberry until recently had been the preserve of the rich. The ad is recent 2011.

@talk72000,
I bought 5 blackberry 4 years ago for less than $200 US each for my company. I hadn't heard that Britain was in such dire straights as for that to be considered 'Rich'. Unless you're inferring that there were explicit social restrictions on that phone which I haven't encountered/heard about at all in the States.

Also unless I missed a time warp somewhere, the riots happened in 2011. Oh, and the blackberry messenger ap is free and can be installed on not just blackberry but the iPhone and the Droid. Which I'm assuming are in pretty decent circulation among Londoners as I communicate with several via an iPhone ap daily.

I recently watched the Dan Brown movie " Angels and Demons" featuring Tom Hanks. It seems the Illuminati were the scientists persecuted by the church. Isaac Newton, Leonardo DaVinci, Galileo. Anyway secret societies are dangerous as they have a structure where members are forbidden to look up the ladder but can look down thus those lleaders who initiate an action are hidden from view. The leaders escape detection. This is what the riots are about.

ummmm... you know that was fiction, right?

I think you have a pretty skewed opinion of people and of poverty. These people are not downtrodden and in many places would be considered rich, regardless of the phone in their pockets.

@talk72000,
I'm sorry, but your general theory about the use of a specific line of telephone being used to organize the riots is crackpot at best. Given the bits I've pointed out above, unless there's actual evidence presented, I'm going to go ahead and call BS.

Cheers.

@Ceili,
Sir Isaac Newton and Leonardo Da Vinci were members of secret societies. Isaac Newton was a Rosicrucian while Leonardo Da Vinci was a Mason as well as Voltaire. You had to hide if the church felt your version of the universe was different or in direct opposition to Medieval physics.

@ossobuco,
He is a fiction writer but he did do his research. Leonardo Da Vinci was a Mason and his painting of the Last Supper has various odd features which could be open to interpretation. He was gay so he did not hold normal Christian views of that period. There is a book explaining how Leonardo Da Vinci created the Shroud of Turin image using a camera like chamber to imprint the image on the 15th Century cloth.

@Ceili,
I was pointing out that seeds were planted to start the riots. I bet the seeders would never be revealed only the second wave of social network tweeters and facebook postings will be charged. There are four groups who would want secrecy:
1. Business folks
2.Government secret services
3.Criminals
4. Secret societies.

Anyone of these would want the riots to occur for their own reasons.

I 'd have been immune to any temptation, there.
When I was 13, while walking toward a bus stop,
I had an epiphany of how disgusting n repugnant larceny is.
I don 't wanna have someone else's property in my possession.
