A man is talking with his wife and the man says if you give me 5 of yours, I'll have twice as many as you and if I give you two of mine I'll have a quarter as many as you.
how many apples do both have?
L.
m+5 = 2*(w-5)
m-2 = (w+2)/4
2*m+3 = 2*w+10+w/4+1/4
m = w + 5 + w/8 + 1/8 - 3/2
m = w*9/8 +(40+1-12)/8
m = (w+29)/8
substitute back in
(w+29)/8 +5 = 2*(w-5)
w(1/8-2) = -15 - 29/8
w*15/8 = -149/8
I'm not liking this... negative apples?
Needs work.
She starts with 10
He starts with 5
Umm...
w = 30/7
m = 25/7
Applesauce.
You sure I didn't just help you with your damn homework?
Any teacher worth his/her salt is gonna make you show your work...
She's got 10
He's got 5
Easy.
(Glad I stick with geometry at work...)

You'll see it often in various threads.
It allows someone to bookmark a thread so it comes up in his/her My Posts section.
