Can I talk to the boss of a sexual offender?

My daughter told me about being abused by her teacher. The police finished the investigation and will recomend the DA to file charges. In the mean time, he's still teaching and doing this to who-knows-how many more children. I feel like I should go talk to his boss and make him aware of the situation. My concern is, if the DA decides not to file charges or the guy ends up not being convicted, that I can be sued for defamation of character. What to do?

@baby02linda,
In America we have this thing about innocent until proven guilty. It's a pretty good idea, really.

I suggest that if you have filed a report with the police and they are investigating that you have done what you can until there is a trial at which point you and your daughter can testify against the teacher.

His boss probably knows about it already, anyway.

@baby02linda,
That's tough - what a bad situation you are in - could you ask the DA what is permissible? I'd mention your concern's - boom is probably right in that the DA and police have probably taken the actions they legally can, but it may put your heart at rest if you know for sure things have been taken care of appropriately.

The one thing is - if you do talk to his boss, there is potential it could impact the case against him in a way you wouldn't like - why it would be better to make sure first before saying anything.

But I can fully understand why you would want to.
