@ossobuco,
Well, that turned out to be a fruitless idea.

In the meantime, I remembered Mount Ranier, a volcanic mountain in Washington State in the U.S.

Ranier sounds a bit like your name in Chinese and also is slightly reminiscent of Prince Rainier of Monaco, a small european principality. I don't know much about that Rainier's reputation, but a famous western movie star, Grace Kelly, married him.

Still, either Ranier or Rainier seems a little forced as a possible name. I agree with others who suggested an english name that is somewhat akin to the sound of your name in Chinese. I like the ones suggested by Green Witch.

@ossobuco,
We also have a poster on a2k named Reyn. I think (but am not sure) that that is short for Reynold, and Reynold is another possibility.

@ossobuco,
I think I saw Prince Rainier dining in a restaurant once
about maybe 40 years ago.

@chai2,
He was eating a Banquet with his entourage, of maybe 25 people.

@wandeljw,
thank you. that's a success example. sometimes i think, others choose english names for themselves are so easy, why only me feel so difficult? maybe i'm too fastidious.

@alps56,
How about something that starts with a G. People named George and Gregory (Greg) usually seem pretty reliable.

@alps56,
well, I like Ben, especially when a specific high hill like Ben Nevis or BEn Lomond. You could use the original "etymological root" of Bienn or Beann (mean "peak").

Nimrod means "a hunter"
In the bible, he was the great grandson of Noah.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nimrod

In popular culture, Bugs Bunny, a cartoon character, gave the name Nimrod a bad reputation, by calling Elmer Fudd (who hunted Bugs Bunny) a nimrod, and little children thought he meant someone foolish.

I don't understand.
Why does that make a difference?

Now, my first name ends with an "s" sound, and my birth last name started with a "z" sound and I never liked that. Sounded like I was slurring the 2 together.
I always thought it was foolish that my parents hadn't considered that.
Now my last name is different, being married, and it sounds just fine.

@ossobuco,
thank you for your hard work. and it seems i've chosen some names i interest.
rehn, ryan and reginald, actually i don't like reginald very well, but some other guys suggest this one. i think ryan is better, because it sounds like the first word of my chinese name and its mean is close to the last word of my name. any suggestions?
