That is an excellent maxim, not only with regard to fools but also to ordinary people looking out for their best interests. Indeed that's why authoritarian top down systems designed for our general welfare often don't work and have corrupted and corrupting side effects that more than wipe our the good they are intended to do.

There has to be a balance that is lacking in today's society. Equilibrium comes with the government and all the people, which includes workers, the very poor, the middle class getting their due, as well as the wealthy and powerful. The federal government is the only institution that has the ability to make this happen.

No argument there. Some actions taken by the Federal government in this area are effective in attaining their intended puropse. Some others involve unintended side effects that in some cases actually exacerbate the problems they were intended to address. Dealing with the difference is what its all about.

I keep jumping up and down to see how high I can go, but as I age, it gets lower and lower....
