“Fortitude is the guard and support of the other virtues.”
― John Locke
“We're so self-important. So arrogant. Everybody's going to save something now. Save the trees, save the bees, save the whales, save the snails. And the supreme arrogance? Save the planet! Are these people kidding? Save the planet? We don't even know how to take care of ourselves; we haven't learned how to care for one another. We're gonna save the fuckin' planet? . . . And, by the way, there's nothing wrong with the planet in the first place. The planet is fine. The people are fucked! Compared with the people, the planet is doin' great. It's been here over four billion years . . . The planet isn't goin' anywhere, folks. We are! We're goin' away. Pack your ****, we're goin' away. And we won't leave much of a trace. Thank God for that. Nothing left. Maybe a little Styrofoam. The planet will be here, and we'll be gone. Another failed mutation; another closed-end biological mistake.”
― George Carlin
@edgarblythe,
No wonder I liked Carlin so much!
@edgarblythe,
Love that Carlin quote. It reflects my own feelings exactly. "Save the planet" is one of the most arrogant, nonsensical slogans I've ever heard. We puny humans can neither save the planet nor destroy it. We can destroy ourselves and possibly bruise the planet a tad, but that doesn't come close to destroying it. If every nuclear device now existent were exploded simultaneously, we might well destroy
most life on the planet but I doubt it would constitute any permanent damage.
@Lustig Andrei,
Here's a whole library of George Carlin shows/topics on YouTube.

The ones on 'conservatism' and 'god' are precious!
Had Carlin been a politician he would have gotten himself assassinated.
Don't know who said this, but I like it

@Lustig Andrei,

Have to agree here. It never was more than a nonsensical catch-all phrase.
Lately it's been put to good use by hotels who don't care to wash your towel every day... "Let's save our money... err... I mean PLANET!"
“They were indeed great rascals, and belonged to that class of people who find things before they are lost.”

“Are you familiar," he said finally, "with the Bang?"
"The Big Bang?" Luka asked. "Or some other Bang I don't know about?"
"There was only one Bang," said Nobodaddy, "so the adjective Big is redundant and meaningless. The Bang would only be Big if there was at least one other Little or Medium-Sized or even Bigger Bang to compare it with, and to differentiate it from.”

Every day that is born into the world comes like a burst of music and rings the whole day through, and you make of it a dance, a dirge, or a life march, as you will.
