"The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time."
Thomas Alva Edison

I post this for what it's worth only: namely, zilch. I totally disagree with the sentiment of "If at first you don't succeed..." etc. Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different (better) result next time is a fine definition of insanity, imo.

@edgarblythe,
Paulette Goddard said that the smell of bacon frying was the best smell there is.

I can't remember the exact words.

@Lustig Andrei,
I post this [Tom's quote] for what it's worth only: namely, zilch.

I totally disagree with the sentiment of "If at first you don't succeed..." etc. Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different (better) result next time is a fine definition of insanity, imo.

Now here you have either gone off on a tangent or you are saying that Tom's quote is worth nothing because he is saying, "Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different (better) result next time is a fine definition of insanity".

Now it's your turn, Merry.

@JTT,
Learn to read, why don'cha? Edison obviously is not saying anything of the kind. I am saying that it's a fine definition of insanity and that Edison's rephrasing of "if at first you don't succeed...[etc.]" is nonsense.

@Lustig Andrei,
Now we're right back to, "What you are saying and what Tom is saying are polar opposites, Merry".

--------------

"The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time."
Thomas Alva Edison

I post this for what it's worth only: namely, zilch. I totally disagree with the sentiment of "If at first you don't succeed..." etc. Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different (better) result next time is a fine definition of insanity, imo.

------------------

There's nothing in Tom's quote that suggests "Doing the same thing over and over again". Quite obviously, trying just one more time worked for him. Being the 4th most prolific patent holder in history speaks to that.
