“There is a vitality, a life force, an energy, a quickening that is translated through you into action, and because there is only one of you in all time, this expression is unique. And if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and will be lost.”
― Martha Graham
“The sea stood up before him, foaming, torn by lightning bolts, opening terrifying mouths that gobbled up the dense, hard black rains unleashed by the sky like hate.”
― Jean-François Beauchemin

First, it is ridiculed.
Second, it is violently opposed.
Third, it is accepted as being self-evident."

'We are all Tunisia in the face of the repressive elite.'
Qatari poet Mohammed al-Ajami, from his poem Tunisian Jasmine. He is currently in jail, and has been for the past year, on charges of insulting the Emir. Nobody should spend a year in jail for writing a poem, with the possible exception of Sarah Palin.
Winter is icumen in,
Lhude sing Goddamm,
Raineth drop and staineth slop,
And how the wind doth ramm!
Sing: Goddamm.
Skiddeth bus and sloppeth us,
An ague hath my ham.
Freezeth river, turneth liver,
Damm you; Sing: Goddamm.
Goddamm, Goddamm, 'tis why I am, Goddamm,
So 'gainst the winter's balm.
Sing goddamm, damm, sing goddamm,
Sing goddamm, sing goddamm, DAMM.
-- Ezra Pound, ca. 1915

Maya Angelou
“The best moments in reading are when you come across something - a thought, a feeling, a way of looking at things - which you had thought special and particular to you. And now, here it is, set down by someone else, a person you have never met, someone even who is long dead. And it is as if a hand has come out, and taken yours”

@edgarblythe,
A person buying ordinary products in a supermarket is in touch with his deepest emotions.
John Kenneth Galbraith
Don't know why some of y'all are downgrading Spendius' posts. Spite? I thought that Galbraith quote was great!
@Lustig Andrei,
I wouldn't say they are "downgrading" my posts Andrei. They are downgrading themselves. That's why they remain anonymous.
I welcome all and every attempt to downgrade my posts legitimately.
@spendius,
Incidentally Andrei, the Galbraith quote begs the important question of whether the designers of products in shops, as opposed, say, to farm implements, have employed people whose training the taxpayer has paid for, to investigate our deepest emotions and are trading on exploiting them with their help.
Which begs another question concerning the particular segment of shoppers being targeted and whether a study of the products reveals something about those customers which it might be indelicate to enquire into.
The design of TV programmes being a refined variation of some importance.
@Lustig Andrei,
I see that all the time, don't know why they just don't do away with the voting thing.
"You can't help getting older, but you don't have to get old."

@jcboy,
Thanx for the comment, jc. My problem with that kind of behavior is that if I really detest the poster, I put him on ignore. Other than that, the 'thumbs up' or 'thumbs down' function is to get rid of obnoxious posts, not obnoxious posters. I despise Pamela Rosa for her racist posts, for example; but, as I don't have her on ignore, I see her posting on the Movies in Alphabetical Order thread all the time. I think it's asinine to 'down-thumb' her choice of
Fantasia, say, because one doesn't like her personally.
@Lustig Andrei,
I agree, I did put Pamela on ignore a while back. I have someone that follows me in the Obama and Romney threads, thumbs me down, then he posts right after me so I figured it was probably him
I still think its a silly feature to have.
And here is one from Mr. Einstein!
"Any intelligent fool can make things bigger, more complex, and more violent. It takes a touch of genius -- and a lot of courage -- to move in the opposite direction."
To date, I have thumbed up virtually anybody that wants to participate. While I am in a commenting mood, I want to say that I sometimes post a quote I don't agree with, or don't agree with entirely, merely because it is to me an interesting thought. or is colorfully expressed.
