@BillRM,
Quote:Making up fantasies to cover areas of knowledge we do not as yet understand
No doubt you include many areas of science in that .
Quote:We did not understand lightening any better by making up gods who use lightening bolts as weapons.
But we did . That was the science of its day . It gave people a rational train of thought . The Gods could be angry, they could cause willful damage...there was no point in worrying about it, just keep an eye on the sky for angry signs . That was a scientific approach at a basic level .
Quote:So you would not try to convict a mentally sick person that he is not Napoleon the first because he just might be as there is no absolute proof that he is wrong?
No, there are some things that are provably wrong . If you start off with the assumption that an all powerful personal God exists, then it becomes impossible to prove otherwise.... by definition, anything is then possible . Science is a constantly changing medium... have you followed what scientists recommend we eat and don't eat ? That sort of accuracy applied to religion is foolish... and why do the atheists insist they are experts at human psychology and then quote physics to prove it ?
