@Ionus,
When a person like you tries to be " clever" in reply's... your reply is a lot more than delusional.

Making up fantasies to cover areas of knowledge we do not as yet understand
No doubt you include many areas of science in that .

We did not understand lightening any better by making up gods who use lightening bolts as weapons.
But we did . That was the science of its day . It gave people a rational train of thought . The Gods could be angry, they could cause willful damage...there was no point in worrying about it, just keep an eye on the sky for angry signs . That was a scientific approach at a basic level .

So you would not try to convict a mentally sick person that he is not Napoleon the first because he just might be as there is no absolute proof that he is wrong?
No, there are some things that are provably wrong . If you start off with the assumption that an all powerful personal God exists, then it becomes impossible to prove otherwise.... by definition, anything is then possible . Science is a constantly changing medium... have you followed what scientists recommend we eat and don't eat ? That sort of accuracy applied to religion is foolish... and why do the atheists insist they are experts at human psychology and then quote physics to prove it ?

I am saying I am happy for science to have doubt... this is why it shouldnt try to convert religious people....until we know everything there is to know, they can not be certain they are right .

Your only contribution is to be pathetic and overly opinionated on other's personalities . Why dont you argue instead of taking pot shots from safety ?

Yes science and the technology that is base on it is the same kind of fantasy as a god/man and you are just dreaming that you can post your nonsense on a worldwide computer network.

Oh all parts of science are lock together so either it is all fantasy or none of it is so pick one or the other.

Bullshit, Franklin was using science when it came to lighting bolts the Greek sadly was not and if they had they did had the capability to had given the human race an understanding of electric a few thousands years earlier.

You have zero understand of what science happen to be but I will give you a hint it is not making up myths.

@BillRM,
Hero or Heron of Alexandria (10-70CE) created a steam powered device called the aeolipile. It was more a toy than anything else, but it still asks the question why was there not an industrial revolution in Ancient Greece/Rome. The answer is probably slavery, no point in industrialising when you already have an unpaid workforce. Industry needs the right socio-economic conditions as well as the right science.

@izzythepush,
It needs the right motive, too. Steam engines were first used to pump water out of coal mines, and coal mines were wanted to provide heating fuel for London. That was in the early 18th century, and it was not until the early 19th century that steam engines were used for boats and railways (railways using steam engines gradually dawned on engineers, because railways were already in use in mines, and steam engines were now in use, so someone eventually put one and one together and came up with toot). It is alleged that a chemical battery was first devised in Mesopotamia thousands of years ago--but what was anyone going to do with it? You need an incentive. Your point about slave labor is well taken--there wasn't much incentive to make labor saving devices.

(EDIT: after checking, it appears that steam engines were used to pump water in mines as early as the late 17th century.)

So Anatomy is connected to Astronomy ?

Franklin was associating two things, one known and one unknown . He was experimenting . The Greeks were putting forward an hypothesis .

Will a translation be forthcoming ?

Your understanding of science is pathetic . Do you really think it appeared out of thin air, not built on anything ? So you believe in creation myths, do you ?

Necessity is the mother of intention, or something like that.

@Ionus,
Science my friend is a method of looking at the world and creating and testing the models to see how they fit or do not fit the real universe.

It had nothing to do with creating gods out of thin air and then declaring we know all about lighting bolts as a result.

Yes they are tied today because we used the same understanding of matter and energy to created models for both fields.

Atoms reacted together to form bones and atoms reacting in the heart of a sun is doing so under the same laws of nature even if they are doing so under far difference conditions.

What is so wrong with converting people to {know} they can not be {absolutely]} certain they are right .
This is the teaching of science and not the teaching of religion!

The answer is: Atheists don't. I am not interested in converting anyone to any belief - and yes, we have beliefs. Mine are based on facts, not blind assumption. I ask only that you - even in your religious fervor, refrain from attempting to bombard me with yours. I am personally oppressed by the Christians.

Antitheists have been oppressed longer and more egregious than Christians. I study many religions, but from a historical standpoint, not an emotional one. I think you are all incredibly stupid, but never would I interfere with your choice. I wish only that you would respect mine.

@orrisn,
If it's not too personal or you don't mind, could you tell me how you are personally oppressed by the Christians? I am sincerely interested and I will respect your choice and will not argue with what you answer.
