It can't be stored in the quantities required (at this stage) so most baseload power generators run at overload all the time. It's a bit of a balancing act.
Tesla has come up with the "wall of power" for individual home power storage solutions. At three grand initial cost, with a ten year guarantee, it's a feasible solution to escalating power costs for grid delivery.
