I'm doing Statistics 1 for my A level and I'm trying to figure out formula for the Geometric distributions.
I know that P(X>x) = q^x
but I don't know how to find P(X<x)
any help is much appreciated as my exam is in 2 weeks!
thanks

@emma-xx,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geometric_distribution

If P ( X>x ) = q^x then

P ( X less than or equal to x ) = 1 - q^x

@laughoutlood,
aw thanks anyway, but I already had that one, it honestly was just P(X less than x) I don't even know if its possible to find it Sad

@emma-xx,
It's possible.

Just start with the probability that X is less than or equal to x, and then subtract the probability that X equals x. You get the probability that X is less than x.

P(X < x) = P(X is less than or equal to x) - P(X = x).

Whenever you have two mutually exclusive events, A and B, then P(A) = P(A or B) - P(B).
