@msolga,
I would "Backup" and I would also "Export" to an HTML file, that way you have two different backups of your bookmarks.

@Ticomaya,
I saved it on my desktop.
Then when I tried opening it, got a "Windows can't open this file message" (because it couldn't identify the program that created it.)

I'll try exporting to an HTML file now.

Windows will know what to do with the HTML file ... it will open it in FF.

Windows doesn't know what to do with the JSON file you created when you did your backup. In order to use that backup, you need to "Restore" that file using the Firefox browser. (In FF 4.0+, that means you would click on the big Orange "Firefox" button>Bookmarks>Import and Backup>Restore>Choose File ... and select the JSON file you just saved.)

@Ticomaya,
Right.
Got it.

OK, next thing.
Install ff 8.
But tomorrow sometime. It's late here now.

I really appreciate the time you've put in & your patience, Tico.
Couldn't have done this otherwise.

Okay, and after you do ... if you don't like the layout (specifically, if you don't like the Big Orange Firefox button -- and the corresponding lack of a "Menu" bar -- you can view the Menu bar instead of the Big Orange Button by clicking the Big Orange Button>Options (the arrow)>click "Menu Bar."

And ... if you don't like your Tabs being up top (and since you're down under, I can imagine that you won't), you can change that default setting by clicking the Big Orange Button>Options (the arrow)>unclick "Tabs on Top". (Or, if you've already gotten rid of the Big Orange Button: View>Toolbars>unclick "Tabs on Top.")

And it could save lots & lots of returns to this thread to ask for even more advice, too! Wink
Lets hope all goes well.
Fingers crossed & thanks again. Smile

Rupert can have that effect on one.
He can make populations of whole continents feel possessed!
Thank you for reassuring me. I was wondering about myself there, for a minute ... Wink

Mozilla’s latest version of it’s popular Firefox web browser saw rapid adoption following its release last week. Firefox 8, the fifth major release of the Mozilla browser so far this year, became available for download on November 9th. Within one day, the new iteration had already grown to account for 7% of all Firefox traffic across Chitika’s ad network, the company reported on Tuesday. By the end of the browser’s first week of availability, Firefox 8 claimed 35% of all Firefox traffic. ...<cont>
