@Rockhead,
Oh good!
um ... did you have to do much "tinkering" to achieve that , Rocky?
I'm not good with tinkering I'm afraid.

@Rockhead,
turns out Set was forced to upgrade to FF 8.0 at around 5 a.m. today

he and the dogs went for a walk while I fought with the puter

I uninstalled the FF 8.0 he'd installed - some kinda glitch in it

reinstalled FF 8.0 - it's still ugly, but after 2 refreshes the bookmarks came back (phew)

I wouldn't choose this over 3.6, but I'll learn to live with it. Still need to figure out how to get my toolbar back.

OK.
Thank you for the feedback!
That's encouraging.
I may make the leap soon, then. Smile

Um ... yeah ... or you could just backup your bookmarks like the rest of the world. Razz

What toolbar?

Have you tried: Firefox button(big orange button in upper left>Options ... and then clicking on the toolbar selections there?

Maybe you'd prefer the "Menu Bar" over the big orange "Firefox" button?

Big Orange Firefox button in the upper left corner ... click on "Bookmarks" (actually click the word) ... click "Import and Backup" ... then "Backup" (or, "Export to HTML", or both).

No thanks necessary.

But some day, and that day may never come, I may call upon him to do a service for me.

Can anyone help?
Before I change to from Firefox 3.6 to 8 I need to back-up my bookmarked material.

I can't follow this advice:
Quote:
Big Orange Firefox button in the upper left corner ... click on "Bookmarks" (actually click the word) ... click "Import and Backup" ... then "Backup" (or, "Export to HTML", or both).

... because all I can find under the big ff orange button is restore & minimize & close (in bold text).
When I click on "bookmarks" none of those prompts (in the above quote) are there.

Any suggestions, please?
What am I doing wrong?

My instructions were designed for those using FF 4.0+.

I no longer have ver. 3.6, so this may or may not work: From your menu bar at the top left, click on "Bookmarks." Then, click on "Show All Bookmarks." Then, click on "Import and Backup." Then, click on "Backup," and save the backup file to a location you will remember.

@Ticomaya,
Thank you for trying, Tico, but those links don't exist under"bookmarks" in the 3.6 version.

@msolga,
What do you see under "Bookmarks"? Do you see "Organize Bookmarks"? If so, try that to see if you find the "Import and Backup" feature.
