I would off hand assume that the point to start at would be to talk over the issue/disagreement in a manner similar to doing so with another biological parent.
@ncimino,
Talk to them. Expalin your concerns. Perhaps you can come to an agreement or consensus. And remember that some of the issues they have with the child will be far different from the issues you have.
