You guessed it right. I believe your dog wants to mark her territory and that is the reason she has been peeing around.

What is this crate training?
We have a great dane puppy and take her out for a pee at midnight and 5 am until her bladder becomes adult; just like i changed my kids before they were toilet trained..The puppy still has accidents as did my kids. My old dog is incontinent but in her sleep so she has waterproof bedding and a sheet that we wash.
French security guards keep their dogs in crates for simplicity as they are only a 'tool', we are trying to stop this cruelty in France.
If the person who has the puppy has a baby , who looks after it? , can't that person take the dog for a walk when the baby gets fresh air? or do they both live in the crate?
