Favorite Characters in Action Flicks?

I find that most of the characters in action flicks are horrible caricatures and/or unlikeable (not dis-likeable, but just impossible to get beyond neutral.)

Such as: The Retired "Whatever" coming back for one last job, or the Widower Avenging his wife, or the Cop on his last day on the job? These characters are just so over done my mind just seems to shut off rather than attempt to connect with them.

On the other hand some of those characters work: Braveheart, Gladiator, etc...

Personally I like a character with a more unique goal: Such as Mel Gibson in Payback (Taking back the money his friend took to double cross and "kill" him.), Mr Brooks just a recovering murder -a-holic. Robert Downey Junior, who really has no idea what's going on the whole movie of "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang." These characters stand out as having a bit of a twist on them at least for me.

What character make Action flicks work for you?

I also go with Jason Bourne/ Matt Damon.

That series of films showed the James Bond people how to do things properly.

However, if you're after comic book action, there's no question.....

Indiana Jones.

Lara Croft, no doubt about it.

Angelina Jolie has a much better rack than Matt Damon.

@MrIVI,
Ellen Ripley from the Alien franchise.

And the cyborg Major Motoko Kusanagi from Ghost in the Shell: uberintelligent and superhumanly strong.
