Which brings up the question if you are a heathen or not.
I take the word loosely, that it includes plain ordinary atheists like me. But, I do remember that word, heathen, in my catholic childhood as a reference to pagans, especially pagan babies, for whom there were routine collections (where did that money go, oh, oh.. oh, oh.)
The reason I take it to include ordinary atheists like me is that I can envision no one in my childhood and teen years that considered atheism in any way. Pagan, they could somewhat relate (thus the efforts to save them).
Of course, then the commies (sic) came along, and ramped atheists into stratospheric loathe time.
