@Butrflynet,
I'm not interested in anime. I'm interested in making my comics in the style of the old Hollywood cartoons. If anything, I might design some Japanese characters in anime style for when my heroes set out across the US and around the world in my comic.

I'm interested in American cartoons. I describe my comic as Catillac Cats meets Street Fighter, with elements of Darkwing Duck and Popeye mixed in.

Did anyone ever watch Darkwing Duck?:

@tsarstepan,
Showing funny animal characters smuggling catnip, anise and mints and sniffing them and/or getting high off of them could be construed as "drug" smuggling and abuse.

You have to be careful what you present to kids.

@tsarstepan,
Hi-what other cartoons have there been involving cats and dog gangs? The only ones I can think of are Catillac Cats:

and some underground cartoon called Rock and Rule:

which I have no interest in viewing.

You could start out with the Hero
Knud - the Great Dane.
He is helped with Olaf the Norwegian Elkhound, Birgitta - the Drever, Henrik the Finnish Lapphund.
Bernhard of course is distributing alcohol all the time. together with Gordon Setter selling gin.
The bad guy is Ma Fia - the massiv Mastiff from Napoli.
Bonifatius - a Hanover Hound - can represent the intelligent people as he can bark in accent and dialect free German
Politics can be represented by Teddy Roosevelt Terrier and Fidel - Cao de Castro Laboreiro.
Shepherds to keep the gangs together: Otto the German Shepherd and George the Old English Shepherd. Otto is close friend with Ursula from Cologne and George with Brigid from Ireland.

@saab,
I already have a set of main characters. The heroes fight a set of villains, and both groups venture out and meet up with other gangs. The good guys make allies, as do the bad guys.

@JGoldman10,
. Is it bad to use certain breeds of cats and dogs to represent different races/cultures?

You missed the irony in my plot.

@saab,
I like the idea of an Italian cat crime boss named Don Gatto.

The heroes and villains meet other gangs around town, and around the US and in other countries to make things interesting.

I'd like to include cat and dog (and maybe rabbit) caricatures of famous people, real and fictional, and use cat-, dog-, (and maybe rabbit-) themed puns.
Puns for people, places and things.

And create other cat-, dog-( and maybe rabbit-) themed people, places and things.

Leroy the Junkyard Dog was another character from the Catillac Cats cartoon:

If I modeled some characters after some of the cat and dog characters in the Catillac Cats, or after characters like Bugs Bunny or Roger Rabbit (that is, if I decide I'm going to use rabbits), etc.- could the companies that own the rights to these characters sue?

No pun intended-I drew some inspiration for one of my bulldog characters from Spike and Chester from the old Warner Bros. cartoons:

Why is no one answering these last questions? No one else here is a cartoonist? I'm asking about the legality of my work.

Why sitcom parody idea do you all like better-

a cat-and-dog parody of the Honeymooners, or a cat-and-dog parody of I Love Lucy? I like the first one better-I already have a name for it and the characters.
