@JGoldman10,
But, when God tells people to shoot abortion doctors, they get in lots of trouble...they go to prison and get raped there. I don't think it's right to get raped for God. I mean, you aren't even supposed to enjoy sex...according to the Bible... unless you're Solomon. Then, you can do it with 300 concubines.

It's a bit confusing.

@Lash,
God's not going to tell people to do that.

@JGoldman10,
I've heard plenty of Christians say that God did tell them to do that.

@Lash,
The Bible says the marriage bed is undefiled. That means the ONLY place God blesses sex is between two marriage people, in private. Married couples are NOT supposed to make sex videos and sell them or showcase them online.

ALL OTHER SEX is a sin.

@ossobuco,
Hebrews 13:4 - Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral.

@Lash,
God's not going to tell someone to do something that goes against His Commandments. He also wants people to use Godly wisdom and pray.

@JGoldman10,
Why did he harden Pharaoh's heart, answer man?
And, when some people pray, they hear God telling them to save innocent babies and shoot abortion doctors...

@JGoldman10,
Why was it ok for Solomon to have all those concubines? Seems a bit unfair for the rest of us to limit ourselves to one...

@Lash,
God says, Romans 12:19-21 "Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord."
God's not going to tell people to kill abortion doctors- God will deal with them.

Isn't that what makes it so much fun? (Although the idea of some Deity watching me have sex creeps me out a bit).

@maxdancona,
God says He will judge the sexually immoral. I didn't write the book. Pornography will destroy you.

Sorry, and not to be overly argumentative, it's just that God has ordered a whole lot of killing over the millenia. Much of it can be found in the bible.

Again, not to be argumentative, but one thing that makes a lot of us skeptics nervous is when people in one breath claim to know what God wants us to do and in the next breath assert that God's will is unknowable to mere humans. I hope you can see why that would be a cause for confusion, at least, and more often worry. You see, there are a lot of religious leaders throughout history and up to this very day who, upon having somehow divined what God wants us to do, order believers to commit atrocities on non-believers and/or heretics. It kinda makes me want to keep a safe distance from religions.

Well, the bible says that he says that, at least. But how does that address my above post?

@JGoldman10,
Well, that wasn't in my post. That's somebody else's argument.

If the biblical God has commanded/demanded/sanctioned so much killing over so many millenia for so many other reasons, including for simple disbelief, why wouldn't he order the killing of people who, in his estimation, are killing millions of babies annually?

I just don't see any criterion, historical, ethical or philosophical upon which you base your statement, I guess, other than your beliefs and preferences. Which is fine by me, by the way. I'm not trying to convert you. Just explaining why I (and many others) have such a problem with such a belief system.

There are more of us Christians here than it appears, JGoldman10. We are not ashamed to admit it, but most of us have learned not to post about our faith much here. It only serves to make us convenient targets. And arguing for the sake of argument is against my religion.

I don't think that posting about faith makes a poster an easy target or whatever. I agree that some people become targets where religion is concerned, but it's not due to the religious aspect as much as a poster attempting to moralize or assert authority. In those circumstances, I think much of the community (Christians included) often mobilize like white blood cells of sarcasm and envelop the entity.

I don't think being a Christian unto itself make a person a target. I also don't think that a person need feel ashamed. That said, if you've felt in the past like you have been incapable of sharing for fear of reproach, that is very unfortunate. I think many people enjoy your thoughts very much.
