Rainsoft shear pin and piston question

I have inherited a Rainsoft AC48CT. Searched the web and found this forum. The advice was right on the money and I've traced the problem to the shear pin and the stuck piston. Panel (PC board) is in working order, plumbing is fine and I can o-ring and lube the piston but I can't seem to remove the shear pin on the drive motor shaft. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I use a long small diameter punch and a small hammer to tap the old pin out.
