I want to take a picture and make it the background for my email stationery. How do I make the picture transparent/see through, not sure what to call it so that you can see the picture but can still see text clearly?
I have a very basic Photoshop program and here's how you do it (might be similar in other programs):
Click: File - New - Blank file
A window pops up asking you to name the file, set the size and chose the background.
Click the drop down menu for "background contents" and choose "transparent".
@Arella Mae,
If you have Microsoft Office 2007, here's instructions for turning an image into a background watermark for stationary. It has step by step graphics to show you:

@Arella Mae,
Quote:background for my email stationery.
Which email service are you using for this? Most email services don't support background images in an email these days. You can only insert an image as part of the body of the text or as part of your signature. AOL is about the only service I know of that allows an image as background for text to be typed over.
Thank you ladies! I have Outlook Express and I can use backgrounds for stationery. I got so swamped at work today I didn't get a chance to read your posts until now but on my lunch tomorrow I'm going to follow your instructions. I love those mongolian horse pictures and I think they will make beautiful stationery.
@Arella Mae,
I found some other ideas for doing this specifically with Outlook Express.
This one is for the 2003 version of OE:
