A Ferrari is traveling at 30 miles per hour on a head-on collision course with a Maserati, which is being driven at a leisurely 20 miles per hour. When the two cars are exactly 50 miles apart, a very fast fly leaves the front fender of the Ferrari and travels towards the Maserati at 100 miles per hour. When it reaches the Maserati, it instantly reverses direction and flies back to the Ferrari and continues winging back and forth between the rapidly approaching cars. At the moment the two cars collide, what is the total distance the fly has covered?

ah ha... 100 miles.

20 + 30 = 50mph combined. 50 miles apart. collide in 1 hour. Fast fly travels at 100 miles per hour. Therefore fast fly flies 100 miles.

The owner of a winery who recently retired left 21 barrels (seven of which are filled with wine, seven of which are half full, and seven of which are empty) to his three sons.

However, the wine and barrels must be split so that each son has the same number of full barrels, the same number of half-full barrels, and the same number of empty barrels.

Note that there are no measuring devices handy.

How can the barrels and wine be evenly divided

Two half-full barrels are dumped into one of the empty barrel to make it full.

Two more half-full barrels are dumped into another one of the empty one.
This results in nine full barrels.
Three half-filled barrels.
Nine empty barrels.

Each son then gets three full barrels, one half-full barrel, and three empty
barrels = 21 barrels.
