TRY, what was that riddle u (i think it was u) posted about a cow eating grass? it ate a third of a field in some amount of time, ate half in another amount, and it turned out it could never eat the whole field because of the rate the grass grew.

Restricted to unauthorized personnel'.

So, as I was unauthorized I thought I would stop to take a look…

TTH:

13 = S on the A F = 13 stripes on the American flag Cool
18 = H on a G C = 18 holes on a golf course Cool
21 = D on a D = 21 dots on a die (dice) Cool

Mark:

15 = Men on a Dead Man's Chest Cool (yo ho ho and a bottle of rum)…

…Drink and the devil had done for the rest
Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum.
The mate was fixed by the bosun's pike
The bosun brained with a marlinspike
And cookey's throat was marked belike
It had been gripped by fingers ten;
And there they lay, all good dead men
Like break o'day in a boozing ken
Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum.

2. Fifteen men of the whole ship's list
Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!
Dead and be damned and the rest gone whist!
Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!
The skipper lay with his nob in gore
Where the scullion's axe his cheek had shore
And the scullion he was stabbed times four
And there they lay, and the soggy skies
Dripped down in up-staring eyes
In murk sunset and foul sunrise
Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum.

3. Fifteen men of 'em stiff and stark
Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!
Ten of the crew had the murder mark!
Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!
Twas a cutlass swipe or an ounce of lead
Or a yawing hole in a battered head
And the scuppers' glut with a rotting red
And there they lay, aye, damn my eyes
Looking up at paradise
All souls bound just contrawise
Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum.

4. Fifteen men of 'em good and true
Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!
Ev'ry man jack could ha' sailed with Old Pew,
Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!
There was chest on chest of Spanish gold
With a ton of plate in the middle hold
And the cabins riot of stuff untold,
And they lay there that took the plum
With sightless glare and their lips struck dumb
While we shared all by the rule of thumb,
Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!

5. More was seen through a sternlight screen
Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum
Chartings undoubt where a woman had been
Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum.
'Twas a flimsy shift on a bunker cot
With a dirk slit sheer through the bosom spot
And the lace stiff dry in a purplish blot
Oh was she wench or some shudderin' maid
That dared the knife and took the blade
By God! she had stuff for a plucky jade
Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum.

6. Fifteen men on a dead man's chest
Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum
Drink and the devil had done for the rest
Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum.
We wrapped 'em all in a mains'l tight
With twice ten turns of a hawser's bight
And we heaved 'em over and out of sight,
With a Yo-Heave-Ho! and a fare-you-well
And a sudden plunge in the sullen swell
Ten fathoms deep on the road to hell,
Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!

Well done TTH to find:

Five cows can eat two acres of grass in 10 days. Seven cows can eat three acres of grass in 30 days. The grass grows at a constant rate and each cow eats at a constant rate. The length of the grass before the cows begin grazing is constant.

How many days will it take 16 cows to eat seven acres of grass?

Damn; that was a good question. Perhaps we should start a top 10 list!

[size=7]-273.16 = Absolute Zero (Kelvin scale)
-4 = Degrees Fahrenheit Equals Degrees Celsius

Boy oh boy, that was some party; a belated Happy (and healthy) New Year to all!

It's all systems go at the Try spread, and lemme tell ya; due to slight overindulgence that is some spread…however, now is the time to return to gut wrenching, stomach churning, mind numbing, heart stopping, pulse racing wicked err; riddles.

To tidy up the remnants of 2007:

Mark:

-273.16 = Absolute Zero (Kelvin scale) Cool

Thoh interjects; "actually the chemist in me says... absolute zero is -273.15 degrees Celsius...i think u were thinking 273.16 Kelvin (0.01 *C) as the triple point of water."

Who knows what I was thinking; I like the answer though! Laughing

Mark cont/ -4 = Degrees Fahrenheit Equals Degrees Celsius Cool

TTH:

00 = and XX = 2 hugs & 2 kisses Razz

That is a cute answer, although I was thinking of: Noughts and Crosses (tic-tac-toe)

Ps. thank you for the nice New Year greetings! Cool

I thought about this for quite a bit, and after drinking a nice cup of hot chocolate () I came up with a straw!

Last Straw - Anger
Straw man - scarecrow?
Smallest straw - drawing straws
Defy gravity - Sucking a liquid upwards? ] Shocked

TTH was equally quick to point out that, "See, there you go again. I have never even heard of the word "Noughts"

Naught also nought (nôt)

Nonexistence; nothingness.
The figure 0; a cipher; a zero.

Nothing: All their work was for naught.

From now on I will try to post only words you no/now/know! Laughing
I see you have met my three brothers.

I was in a Seven-Eleven (7-11) store, and selected four items to buy. The check-out clerk says that he multiplied the costs of the items and obtained exactly 7.11, the very name of the store!
I calmly told the clerk that the costs of the items should be added, not multiplied. The clerk then informs me that the correct total is also $7.11.

What are the exact costs of the 4 items Question

How many different displays of 2 flags, (one directly above the other) can be made on a flagpole if 7 flags, all different, are available for use Question

(Note: Flag 1 above flag 2 is a different display than flag 2 above flag 1..)

This question threw me for a loop until I read some of the fine print... namely that part where it says that multiplication results in exactly 7.11. Having 4 items each with 2 decimal places means that the answer will have 8 decimal places and a single number in front of this. This means that the total was in reality 7.11000000. I changed this into cents and founds its factors, which were 2, 3, 5, and 79. One of these factors must be one of the costs of the items!

Obviously, 79 would have been the easier to figure out amongst those and after a little guess and check, I came up with 316 or $3.16 as one of the numbers!

I need help after here though... that was as far as I got Embarrassed

Again, I fall back on some game theory that I learned over the summer!

I think for this case... Combination should work!

C(7,2) will be:

7!
_
5!2!

Which leaves 7*3, and the answer: 21.

Permute me to suggest : P(7,2) = 7! / (7-2)!

ie. 7x6

That was just guessing at #'s. I don't know a formula for it and I have no idea how TehMeh came up with $3.16 to begin with Confused

Try, can you explain the answer so I can understand it?

I'd forgotten that the product of 6 on 5, 5 on 4, and 3 on 2, equals the sum of the products.
