If this is suppose to be 8 sides on a stop sign, a stop sign actually has 10 sides Laughing

Someone wrote, "a stop sign actually has 10 sides" Shocked

Excuse me; have you been at the Christmas sherry? Mr. Green

Stop signs originated in Michigan in 1915. The first had black letters on a white background and were somewhat smaller than the modern one. As they became more widespread, a committee supported by the American Association of State Highway Officials (AASHO) met in 1922 to standardize them, and it selected the octagonal shape that has been used in the United States ever since.

The unique eight-sided shape of the sign allows drivers facing the back of the sign to identify that oncoming drivers have a stop sign and prevent confusion with other traffic signs.

Try I wouldn't think YOU were a crook - even if you were a lawyer - if you are a lawyer hanging around St. Anthony and Water Street...I would TRY to give you the benefit of the doubt j/k  it really wouldn't surprise me if you were a lawyer - that may explain TTH's inability (and mine for that matter) to understand you at times...all that double talk Laughing

Merry Christmas TTH, Mark, Solipsister, Stormwatch, TehMeh and all you others! My very best wishes to you all!

a new 1000 ft high skyscraper is being built. its base is a 300 ft by 300 ft square. the base spirals upwards like a corkscrew having completed one revolution once reaching the top. what is the volume of the building Question what is the length of the spiral edge Question

SKYSCRAPER
[size=7]The volume is the same as if it didn't spiral (90,000,000 cubic feet) since every horizontal cross section is a 300'x300' square.

The length of the spiral edge (1666.29 feet) is the hypotenuse of a right triangle with legs 1000 and 300*sqrt(2)*pi (circumference of circle circumscribing square base).

Well folks, how did it go? I know it is better to give than receive, but whoever said that didn't want a Rolex Daytona 24 watch as badly as I did. So leaving nothing to chance I decided to gift one to myself…nice!

I hope ya'll received what you wished for, and had a great time.

Due to my system crashing yesterday, I didn't have the opportunity of commenting on previous posts; a situation I now address:

Miss mi writes, "I wouldn't think YOU were a crook - even if you were a lawyer."

That is most magnanimous of you. However, it is my experience that the difference is minimal! (Although there are always exceptions to the rule).

Francis wrote, "I think, therefore I am"

Or, as we say in France: Je pense donc je suis

TTH, "Yes, I have heard that joke before but…"

I agree with that!

Although it appears to have hit the spot with Slippy, who was moved to write:

"Presumably he came back for sum ergo cogito."

Now, that is funny because; the saying is: Cogito, ergo sum. But; he "came back" - Cute!

I hope to be back into Riddle mode by the weekend in an effort to keep this train crash of a thread going from 03' to 08'. So thanks for the participation, it would be kinda lonely here without you guys. Very Happy
