Storm, I would like to apologize for the way I spoke this morning; so unlike me to be so nice. After negotiations with John Henry I'm gonna sell of the pitch in one foot square lots, then dig it out for a car park. :wink:

Still, I am happy to note they are beating those damned Yankees. Razz

TTH:

Hold the front page….

20 red flags and 80 green flags
20x40%=8
80x60%=48
8+48=56 Cool Cool
I didn't use a formula for this, I just calculated it in my head. Shocked

Mark, Rap, Thoh etc all failed to crack the complexities of the problem; you will go down in history. Razz

From the problem, we have two unknowns, red(R) and green(G). Also, from the information we get from the problem, we can write out two equations.

Forty percent of the reds added to 60 percent of the greens numbered 56.
==> 0.4R + 0.6G = 56 ---(1)

The ratio of the number of reds to the number of greens was 1 to 4.
==> R/G = 1/4 ==> 4R = G ---(2)

replace G with 4R into equation (1),
0.4R + 0.6(4R) = 56
0.28R = 56
R = 20

Plug in the value R into equation (2),
4 * 20 = G
G = 80

I wrote, "Would you just step into the steam room"

Etc replied, "Was that wise thing to do say and write?"

God works in mysterious ways….. Do good, get good.

May I also confirm I don't get paid $150,000 a year by AtoK to stir up controversy; therefore it would appear no one will be exorcised. This was not a witch hunt; purely a mission seeking the truth. So shape up, or as they say in the navy; please pass the port to the left!

According to experts in computer security, you should use at least an eight-letter password, using a combination of upper-case letters, lower-case letters, numbers, and some punctuation symbols.

The reason I mention this is because; I am sure we all know by now that Elvis and Etc are one and the same person! Strange, but possibly true.
Therefore, how many eight-letter passwords are possible that contain the name ELVIS Question

The only restriction is that ELVIS must appear in the password as five consecutive letters (in order) but the letters may be any combination of upper-case and lower-case. Symbols may repeat.

You may choose from 72 different symbols on the keyboard.
(26 upper-case letters, 26 lower-case letters, 10 digits, and 10 punctuation symbols).

I have 2 kids. One is a girl. What are the chances that the other child is a boy?

The answer to this slightly different question might surprise you.

But probably not as much as 47,775,744 ELVISes.

ELVIS

[size=8]there are 4 possible positions for the word elvis in an eight letter password
there are 2^5 ways to spell elvis mixing cases
there are 72^3 ways to fill in the remaining letters

4 * 2^5 * 72^3 = 47,775,744

Try, I'm sure you consider me to be one of those 'Damned Yanks'. :wink: , and I was beginning to think of you as a nice guy Laughing

Feel free to turn the pitch into a car park. I have never had the opportunity to see a Cricket match, so I don't know how much space that will yield you. I do know, however, that turning a pitcher's mound into a parking lot would not be very profitable even in Boston where parking is at a premium. Laughing Laughing

ELVIS:

Epenthesis:

47,775,744 ELVISes. Cool

That seems rather high; let's checkout what Mark came up with…

Mark:

there are 4 possible positions for the word elvis in an eight letter password
there are 2^5 ways to spell elvis mixing cases
there are 72^3 ways to fill in the remaining letters

4 * 2^5 * 72^3 = 47,775,744 Cool

Call me a tenderfoot, but both those totals look kinda similar; let's see:

The letters for ELVIS can fit in the eight-letter password in four different ways:

E L V I S _ _ _
_ E L V I S _ _
_ _ E L V I S _
_ _ _ E L V I S

To figure out the number of ways that ELVIS could appear at the beginning of your password, there are 2 ways that E could be chosen (upper and lower case), 2 ways that L could be chosen, 2 ways that V could be chosen, 2 ways that I could be chosen, 2 ways that S could be chosen, and then 72 ways that the last three symbols could be chosen, for a total of 11,943,936 permutations.

2 2 2 2 2 72 72 72 = 11,943,936

The other three positions of ELVIS result in the same number of passwords, so the total number is 11,943,936 + 11,943,936 + 11,943,936 +11,943,936 = 47,775,744 different passwords!

You might be an Elvis fan if you think the first four words of the national anthem are, ''Gentlemen start your engines''.

Yup that is exactly the problem; Parados wants me dead. But then; If a man hasn't discovered something that he will die for, he isn't fit to live.

Etc wrote of our, no - your impending DOOM! So although I am not medically qualified; BA Calcutta - failed; my prognoses is: The wheel's turning, but the hamster's dead.
