You're girlfriend must not be too bright. She minimizes her time by mowing lengthwise. However, it would take as long (26.25 minutes) with a 22" mower as with a 21" mower. Since it seemed faster, she must be mowing widthwise. In that case her time dropped from 42 minutes to 36.125 minutes.
I may have this all wrong, but:
If you mow along the longer side, it will take 160 seconds or 2.65 minutes less to mow the lawn.
If you mow along the shorter side, it will take 230 seconds or 3.83 minutes less to mow the lawn.
To figure this out, 150 feet equals 1800 inches.
Dividing by 21 inches means that it will take 85.71 or 86 paths (mowing along the shorter sides).
Dividing 1800 inches by 22 inches requires 81.81 or 82 paths.
Dividing 105 feet or 1260 inches by 21 inches means that it will take 60 paths to mow the lawn.
Dividing 1260 inches by 22 inches means that it will require 57.27 or 58 paths.
