Here are the basic units:
Length: meter (about 39 inches)
Capacity: liter (about a quart)
Mass: gram (1000 grams is 2.2 pounds)
Here are some commonly used prefixes which multiply or divide by powers of ten:
nano: one billionth
micro: one millionth
milli: one thousandth
centi: one hundredth
deci: one tenth
kilo: one thousand
Combining, you get things like:
milligram: one thousandth of a gram
kilogram: one thousand grams
centimeter: one hundredth of a meter
nanometer: one billionth of a meter
milliliter: one thousandth of a liter
I'll stop being boring now...
It isn't boring. If it is in tenths than why isn't meter? You show 39 inches?

a decimeter is a tenth of a meter
Is the 39 inches just to give me an idea of how much a meter is?
Now it's a Mary Kay Firehawk!
Okay that is awful ugly yuk
Have you ever driven one before?

Yes. The meter is the basic unit of length in the metric system. There are 2.54 centimeters per inch (check your ruler). A meter is about 39 inches. Inches, feet, pounds, ounces, etc. aren't metric units. It's also a pain to convert them:
12 inches per foot
3 feet per yard
5280 feet per mile
16 ounces per pound

Yes. 39 inches X 2.54cm/in X 1m/100cm = 99.06 cm
100cm x 1in/2.54cm = 39.37 inches

A Mary Kay or a Mary Kay car?
Mark, yellow would look nice.........i think....or green
How did you happen to know I have a ruler right here. They were going to teach the metric system in school but at the time the USA did not use it so I guess they figured they didn't need to.
Metric is great when that's all you're using. If you have to constantly convert to/from metric, it's a pain in the ass and there isn't an advantage. This country needs to take the big step and totally adopt metric. No more inches, feet, pounds, etc.

That is what my mom said (she is German, not American). She said they shouldn't convert, just use one or the other.
Green, yellow thanks thoh13!!

Either

No. I love hot pink, but that's not what they use, and I'm not sure it would look good on a car. I've only known one Mary Kay lady, and I wouldn't have wanted a test drive...
I have seen some hot pink cars here and they are not pretty.
