The problem is to maximize
a) 10p + 24o + 13g - 520
b) 12p + 26o + 15g - 780

subject to:
p + o <= 80
p + g <= 120
o + g <= 60
p >= 0
o >= 0
g >= 0

The relevant points to consider are the intersections of the six planes listed above.

Code:These are:
p o g a b
------------------
0 0 0 -520 -780
0 0 60 260 120
80 0 0 280 180
80 0 40 800 780
60 0 60 860 840
70 10 50 1070 1070
0 60 0 920 780
20 60 0 1120 1020

Therefore:
a) purple: 20g, orange: 60g, green: 0g, profit: $1120
b) purple: 70g, orange: 10g, green: 50g, profit: $1070

Mark, Did I ask you what you do for a living? Does it have anything to do with math? Well, it should.

I got degrees in math an computer science a long time ago. I've forgotten most of the math I learned - use it, or lose it.

Damn Right! I lost it a long time ago, but I have never been very good at it. Men are usually better at math than women...statistically speaking..lol

Im not sure its societies fault. More men are right brained (reason and logic) women tend to be left brained (creative and artistic). Or the opposite, whichever way I dont think its anyones fault.

DANGER - DANGER.

Shari, if you are going to mention Pigtails and PJ's in the same line, may I suggest you preface it with a health warning…

Picture it you say; Pigtails. Oh! Lordy I think I have come over all unnecessary, I must go and have a little lay down.

BTW don't be fooled by Mark's wildly accurate guesses. I got degrees, every time I have a drink I lean over a few degrees. Furthermore, I have a P.H.D.* Yeah!

*Pifco Hair Drier. Well! Watcha lookin at, I nevr dun lernd 2 reed an rite.

Sorry Try. I was just trying to make it seem dorky that I'd be wearing sunglasses in my PJs. I was hinting that I am very serious about my hold 'em skills and I will take all your money....;0)

Shari, you sure have a quick brain.

"makes me remember Moonlighting"

Me too.
Artist: LeAnn Rimes Lyrics
Song: Can't Fight The Moonlight Lyrics

Under a lovers' sky
gonna be with you
and no one's gonna be around
if you think that you won't fall
well just wait until
til the sun goes down

underneath the starlight - starlight
there's a magical feeling - so right
it'll steal your heart tonight

you can try to resist
try to hide from my kiss
but you know
but you know that you can't fight the moonlight
Deep in the dark
you'll surrender your heart
but you know
but you know that you can't fight the moonlight
no, you can't fight it
it's gonna get to your heart

there's no escape from love
was a gentle breeze
weaves it's spell upon your heart
no matter what you think
it won't be too long
til your in my arms
underneath the starlight - starlight
we'll be lost in the rhythm - so right
feel it steal your heart tonight

you can try to resist
try to hide from my kiss
but you know
but you know that you can't fight the moonlight
Deep in the dark
you'll surrender your heart
but you know
but you know that you can't fight the moonlight
no you can't fight it
no matter what you do
the night is gonna get to you

don't try then
you're never win

part of me the starlight - starlight
there's a magic feeling - so right
it will steal your heart tonight

you can try to resist
try to hide from my kiss
but you know
but you know that you can't fight the moonlight
Deep in the dark
you'll surrender your heart
but you know
but you know that you can't fight the moonlight
no, you can't fight it

you can try to resist
try to hide from my kiss
but you know
don't you know that you can't fight the moonlight
Deep in the dark
you'll surrender your heart
but you know
but you know that you can't fight the moonlight
no, you can't fight it

The problem is to maximize

(See page 447 for full details)

After that answer Mark wrote, "I got degrees in math an computer science a long time ago. I've forgotten most of the math I learned"

That is the problem; you have forgotten more than I know. Could you assist in forgetting at an enhanced rate…….No, faster than that.

Shari confesses, "I lost it a long time ago, but I have never been very good at it."

I am sorry to hear that, practice, practice and practice some more.

"I have you figured out already!! So NA!"

Song: NA! NA! Lyrics

Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen Soundtrack
Artist: Superchick

You're building a case against me
Prosecutor, judge, and jury
We had this conversation in your head
'Cause I wasn't there, you made up what I said-
Or what I would of said; you know me so well
You heard how I am and how I'm going to heaven knows
We've never had this conversation, or should I be calling it a condemnation?
'Cause you're not listening to me

(Chorus)
So na, na, na, na, na
That's all I'm gonna say
'Cause na, na, na, na, na
Made up your mind any way
Na, na, na, na, na
There's nothing I can do
So na, na, na, na, na
Couldn't we be friends if not for you

Oops, I did it again, I see
The person I'm talking about is me
Assuming you're the enemy
In the crosshairs of my verbal Uzi
No matter who wins, we both lose
No matter who starts, we both choose
To keep it going on and on and on
But let's start listening and see

Can't we be friends
Why does it end
Before a word is even heard
I look at you, your attitude
Why can't you see
That it's not me?

(Chorus)

Two US Navy inshore patrol boats on opposite sides of a river head towards each other at different speeds. When they pass each other the first time, they are 700 yards from one shoreline. They continue to the opposite shoreline, turn around, and move towards each other again. When they pass the second time, they are 300 yards from the other shoreline.

Assume Shari is at one helm and Mark at the other. Both boats travel at a constant speed and ignore factors such as turn-around time and the current of the river.

How wide is the river Question

River boats
w is width of river
s1 speed of 1st boat, s2 speed of 2nd boat
t1 is time at 1st meeting, t2 is time of 2nd meeting
1st meeting w=(s1+s2)t1 & 700=s1t1
2nd meeting (w+300)+(2w-300)=3w
(s1+s2)t2=3w & 3w=3(s1+s2)t1
so t2=3t1
w+300=s1t2=3s1t1=3(700)=2100
w=2100-300=1800
