TA, the skipper of the speedy water taxi service was transporting a client up river to his new business location. As soon as the boat left the dock the client fell asleep. After the boat had travelled 1 mile the clients hat blew off into the water and started to float downstream. The boat continued upstream for 5 more minutes before the client awoke and discovered his hat was missing. TA then turned the boat around and headed back down stream. They finally caught up with the hat just as it reached their original starting point. The sailing speed was constant whether going up stream or down stream can you figure out how fast the river was flowing.

BUSES
133 Cool

You know there are 50 people on the first bus with a 2:3 ratio boys to girls, 20 boys and 30 girls.
Boys on Bus 1 to boys on Bus 2, 5:6 ratio. 24 boys on Bus 2.
50:50 girls to boys on Bus 2. 24 girls on Bus 2. 48 total on Bus 2.
Girls on Bus 3 to Girls on Bus 2, 7:8 ratio. With 24 girls on Bus 2 = 21 girls on Bus3.
60 % of Bus 3 is girls = 21. 40% boys = 14. 35 total on Bus 3.
50 + 48 +35 = 133

CONTAINERS
six 20-ounce Cool
seven 8-ounce Cool
five 16-ounce Cool

Annifa has a total 256 ounces of drink.
120 ounces are in 20-ounce water bottles = 6 water bottles
136 ounces are split between 12 more containers, some 8-ounce glasses and some 16-ounce pint containers.
X = # pint containers, Y = # of eight-ounce glasses
16x + 8y = 136
x + y = 12, x = 12-y
16 (12- y) + 8 y = 136
y = 7, x = 5

How I hate these sequences!

SEQUENCES
10.5 Cool

You divide the number shown by 2 & then add 5 for each step in the sequence.

SEQUENCE
986 Cool

Answer: The sequence goes multiply by 1 & then add 1, multiply by 2 & then add 2, multiply by 3 & add 1, multiply by 1 & add 2, multiply by 2 & add 1, multiply by 3 & add 2, & then the sequence repeats.

DP, I am sorry you are having problems taming the local wildlife, but, ?'birds and chicks' went out of fashion along with Crocodile Dundee. Update your lexicon mate. Laughing

As for your right royal regal ripper riddle:

Speed of the water = d / (2 * t) miles/minute

Where d = distance travelled by the hat
t = time travelled upstream in minutes without noticing the fallen hat

In this case of gross negligence, d = 1 mile, t = 5 minutes.

Hence Speed of the Water = 1 / (2 * 5) = 1/10 = 0.1 miles/minute or 0.1*60 = 6 miles per hour.

I hope his hat was ok.

I am sorry to read you are unwell Mark, I do hope you will make a full and speedy recovery. What is the point I ask in defeating a week and infirm adversary? Of cause, that would only apply if, and only if, I were to ?'win' a round.

SEQUENCES
4.55 Cool

I made it:
1.33, 4.17, 1.39, 4.36, 1.45, (4.57)
The sequence goes divide by 3, then multiply by pi, divide by 3, multiply by pi, etc. But only the first 2 numbers following the decimal are written down, & used for the next step in the sequence.
I'm not going back for .02

no clue

My mistake, I don't know where it went, it sure did need one. Embarrassed
0.7, 0, 5, 8, 8, 2, 3, ?
The numbers shown are the digits following the decimal when you divide 12 by 17.

5 4 3 6 6 8 Cool
Each number represents the number of letters in the number in that order. That is: one = 3, two = 3, three = 5, etc.

Wow, that's real clever.

"Nuther sequence:"

3 5 4 5 6 8 9 8 11

Are you sure its (11)?

I can get as far as : 3 5 4 5 6 8 9 8
Then I make it (9) 10

I.e. 1+3=4. 3+4=7. 4+7=11// 3-1=2+11=13. 13+4=17. 4-3=1+17=18. 7-4=3+18=21. 11-7=4+21=25. 25=10

Am I close, or what! Laughing

WEEK SEQUENCE
I Sat. down and came up with 8. Cool

Each number represents the number of letters in a day of the week, skipping days. So Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday.
We were looking for Saturday 8

MONTH SEQUENCE (So you picked up on the ?'clue') Laughing

Answer: 1 2 13 0 3 03 1

The number of days in each month, but only the second digit is given for January, first digit for February, March is backward, and then the series repeats, beginning with April.

Do you mean best rates, or, mates rates?

30 year fixed 6.202%. APR 6.276%
15 year fixed 5.818%. APR 5.894%
1 year ARM 3.031%. APR 3.774%

Look at this, and tell me it was just a coincidence: Shocked

(Replace number with letters to spell out word) 4 = four is the only one to have the same number of letters as the total.

3 5 4 5 6 8 9 18 11
one three four seven eleven thirteen seventeen eighteen

1 + 3 = 4 +3 = 7 + 4 = 11*+2 = 13 + 4 = 17 + 1 = 18

* (Now subtract and add the difference)

1 - 3 = 2 11 + 2 = 13
four = 4 + 13 = 17
3 - 4 = 1 + 17 = 18

(It would continue)

4 - 7 = 3 + 18 =21 (spell out 21) = 9
7 - 11 = 4 + 21 = 25 (spell out 25) =10

United States of America United Cool

?'d'

Skipping a letter each time, the series spells out "United States of America". After the last a in America, the series begins again with u in United. The twist is when skipping, if the next place skipped to is a space, a ?'.' is substituted instead.
