'Twas in heaven pronounced, and 'twas muttered in hell,
An echo caught faintly the sound as it fell;
On the confines of earth 'twas permitted to rest,
And the depths of the ocean its presence confessed;
'Twill be found in the sphere when 'tis riven asunder,
Be seen in the lightning and heard in the thunder.

'Twas allotted to man with his earliest breath,
Attends him at birth, and awaits him in death,
Presides o'er his happiness, honor, and health,
Is the prop of his house, and the end of his wealth.
In the heaps of the miser 'tis hoarded with care,
But is sure to be lost on the prodigal heir.

It begins every hope, every wish it must bound,
With the husbandman toils, and with monarchs is crowned.
Without it the soldier, the seaman may roam,
But woe to the wretch who expels it from home!
In the whispers of conscience its voice will be found,
Nor e'en in the whirlwind of passion be drowned.

'Twill not soften the heart; but though deaf be the ear,
It will make it acutely and instantly hear.
Yet in shade let it rest, like a delicate flower,
Ah... breathe on it softly, - it dies in an hour.

Ok here's one for you to ponder over, says Whim to his friends. How many solutions can you find if you may use a polished piece of metal.

NEL+NOEL+IRIS = NADIA
149 + 1549 + 8682 = 10380
149 + 1649 + 8582 = 10380

I found these by hand, but using an online solver, I found out that there are a total of ten solutions. I don't know what the mirror is for.

I made a mistake, in thinking that a mirror would work. Creating a new teaser is not always without failures... ;-)
I intended to reverse the position of the letters of the equation to get AIDAN = SIRI + LEON + LEN.
And I was aiming for 19 solutions. Both equations consists of first names.

I really like Try Again's aproach too. So if I drop de mirror addition, we are looking at 14 possible solutions.

Thanks for playing..

Haunted house ride: Leaving aside the obvious question of why the haunted house ride is using boats, I'd say that yes, everyone will get to ride through.

Let's say the last ride goes at 6:00 p.m., then it is now 5:00 p.m. There will be rides at 5:00, 5:10, 5:20, 5:30, 5:40, 5:50, and 6:00.

At 24 marks per ride, that allows 168 riders.

Sierra to urbantown is (85-48)=37mi

income=$100 outgo=$80 the dealer made $20 unless profit was eaten by repair

an hour consists of 60 minutes, that time for six trips by the three boats (6*3=18) 8 people per boat gives 144 rides in an hour at full capacity--so no, 150 people can't get on the ride in an hour.

Diophantus' Age Problem

Diophantus, the Greek mathematician known as the "Father of Algebra", supposedly had the following inscribed on his tombstone:

"Diophantus passed 1/6th of his life in childhood, 1/12th in youth, and 1/7th more as a bachelor.
Five years after his marriage, there was born a son who died four years before his father, at half his father's age."
