I think this ask for a good thread with hints only, I would hate it if someone post the answers...

I 3 V 4 X 3 L 5 C 7 D 11 M ?

I get it now. But if 7 follows C, then I would replace the question mark with an 8 instead of an 11.

"I get it now. But if 7 follows C, then I would replace the question mark with an 8 instead of an 11."

C=HUNDRED (7) Note; no ONE. Whim is a tricky dickey.
D=FIVE HUNDRED (11)
M=ONE THOUSAND (11)

The answer I intended was 8, but when you said 11
I noticed that you might mean one-thousand and that's right too, so I said correct. However, it does not go nice with C7. I will change C7 into C10.

Thanks for the feedback.

I 13 V 3 X 16 L 20 C 5 D 14 M ?

28

I see how the Arabic numbers are generated. Based on Whim's circle hint, I'm assuming it wraps around.

Suppose you have 5 weights, weighing 1, 3, 9, 27, and 81 grams.
How can you balance a 100 gram object using some or all of the other weights Question

100 + 9 = 1 + 27 + 81

The pattern AABBBCCCCAABBBCCCC continuously repeats.

"Arrived Friday in the middle of a storm that would put a hurricane to shame. Hotel kitchen got flooded out. Have to move to Motel. Arrive 3.55pm Local. 4pm roof hit by lightening and set ablaze. All evacuated. Get a rental, and drive till the rain stops, find local village Inn. Although what village I can not be sure, they all talk as if they have an apple in their mouth. No sign of the Queen or Tony Blaire. Is it safe to drink the water in a JD? "

Sounds exciting! Catching any Wimbledon matches?
