The backdrop also looks really cheap.

If not a stripper per se, perhaps a wannabe who paid to have "starlet" photos taken for her portfolio.

In the fifties, women were portrayed mostly as sex objects. You very rarely saw a woman on film who was portrayed as competent. (Oh yeah, there were a few, like Kate Hepburn, but she was in the minority). I would suspect that the backdrop in that picture was considered perfectly acceptable for a young actress attempting to get ahead.

Also, during the era when the studios reigned supreme, there was the concept of the "casting couch". (You can figure out what THAT meant.)

In the sixties, Doris Day played in a number of comedies where she was portrayed as very chaste. I remember a joke that went around, "I knew Doris Day BEFORE she was a virgin!

Doris Day was active in the movies in the 1940s and 1950s, as I remember.
She did not wait until the '60s.

@OmSigDAVID,
She was a fountain customer. If I remember correctly her husband was in law school at the time. She was sassy and loved to get the men stirred up.

Actually it was funny, her favorite target was Pete the cashier. She would go to him at the cashier station, flop her boobs on the cashier counter and then she would sort of bounce up and down and of course her boobs would bounce up and down and this poor kid would go into total meltdown and we used to tease the hell out of him.

Conversations were pretty banal. She was totally self-centered.

But she did know how to get attention.

That is definately not Jayne.

Her face is completely different.

Jayne Mansfield was a very intelligent woman, she apparantly had an IQ around 150.
She was no bimbo, and was exploiting her assests (no pun intended) to get where she wanted to go.

I admire her very much. I heard she was a very good mother, and a very hard working person.

@chai2,
Yeah she was a hard worker. JFK was rumored to have said that she gave the best head he ever had.

@Sglass,
That'd be Marilyn Monroe, not Jayne Mansfield.

That's not the same person. Chin/ jawline is the most obvious difference, but a bunch of other big differences too.

Actually, there's nothing in her picture, the one where you can see her entire body, to indicate she's particularly large breasted.

She doesn't look at all familiar to me, or much like any famous person.

As soz said, it's a cheap looking backdrop, and honestly, the woman isn't posed well or anything.

Seems like she's just some anonymous woman that had a cheesecake picture taken.

I don't even know why it's assumed she's an actress.

@sozobe,
You're right - different eyebrows, teeth & mouth shape definitely different. Gotta say at first glance they looked similar.

I 'm about 75% sure that it is Jayne Mansfield
from a scene in her movie The Girl Can 't Help It of 1956.
I remember going to see that movie.
I think I remember that scene.

@OmSigDAVID,
Pretty unlikely to be Jayne Mansfield. Wrong body stature or physique. Take a close look at this picture: her eyebrows, nose and shape of mouth are not even close.

She could have still gone somewhere after that, but also maybe not.

Backdrops like that can be bought cheaply at any party store.

You're right ragman. I'm absolutely floored so many people think it's either Mansfield OR Monroe.

I guess it just goes to show how easy it is to fool people in general with images that look somewhat similar.

Beyond the fact this womans face actually looks like neither person, I'm amazed that just because it's a woman who's baring her shoulders, and is wrapped in some sheet like, fringed thing, that people are imagining a larged breasted, voluptuous woman. It's like the mere act of her leaning over is making people see breasts and cleavage tumbling out. There's nothing of the sort going on.

Another dead giveaway to me that this is a cheap photograph is the fact the model/actress is not wearing shoes.
IMO, if this was a higher class photo, she'd be wearing high heels, to give the legs more length.
