seems to me there is an appropriate use for private messages as well as an inappropriate use of public messages on a2k.

People abuse private messages and post them. If I remember, it was from a then moderator who took the post from a private message from a guy I had sent it to, and then, receiving the message, then posted it.
At the least, the person or the sender sent them all about in other private messages (which had never occurred to me) in big swaths.
These can balloon.
Be careful out there.

You can surmise I am for public discussion, largely if not entirely.

sometimes information is of personal nature and respect as well as common decency would indicate that it not be a public, but rather, a private communication.
