Font help

Does anyone know where to get free fonts, safely?

The font I want is called, I think "death note" but it appears there is another font called "death note" that I don't like as well. Maybe the font I want is really called something else. Here is a link to the font I want (sorry, couldn't copy the photo off to here):

http://modmyi.com/forums/attachments/skinning-themes-discussion/93921d1222888151-death-note-theme-death-note.png

I don't want to download a hundred fonts just to get that one since I don't typically work with text.

Also, if I just wanted to use this font on the first letter of a few words do you know of a more standard font that wouldn't look ridiculous with it?

And, how do I download a font so that it shows up in my photoshop program?

Any help appreciated!

@boomerang,
You can download it from www.fontriver.com/font/death_note
To use fonts that you download, just copy them into your font folder.

@Intrepid,
Thank you!

I'm pretty stupid about this stuff -- how do I copy it into my font folder?

@boomerang,
Copy through explorer. The fonts will probably be in C:/Windows/Fonts

@Intrepid,
I found the font folder, and I copied the font from the pop-up deal but when I say "install new font" it says it can't find one.

If I right click it doesn't give me a paste option.

When I drag and drop it says it needs my permission to continue and but when I say "okay" nothing happens.

Oh!

There are a bunch of fonts in that folder that don't show up on Photoshop either!

Right now I'm using "Elements" because I just don't tweak stuff enough to spring for the big program. Could that be why?

@ehBeth,
Thank you!

That's a fun font. Very legible -- which is what I was after -- but oddly scary. Perfect! I'll check out that tab and page.

For anyone else in the future wanting help with adding/installing fonts, here's a cut and paste from the MS help library:

Quote:
To add a new font to your computer
Open Fonts in Control Panel.
On the File menu, click Install New Font.
In Drives, click the drive you want.
In Folders, double-click the folder that contains the fonts you want to add.

In List of fonts, click the font you want to add, and then click OK.
To add all of the listed fonts, click Select All, and then click OK.

Notes

To open Fonts, click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Fonts.
To select more than one font to add, hold down the CTRL key, and then click each of the fonts you want to add.
You can also drag OpenType, TrueType, Type 1, and raster fonts from another location to add them to the Fonts folder. This works only if the font is not already in the Fonts folder.
To add fonts from a network drive without using disk space on your computer, make sure that the Copy fonts to Fonts folder check box, in the Add Fonts dialog box, is clear. This is available only when you install OpenType, TrueType, or raster fonts using the Install New Font option on the File menu.

I love dafont:

http://www.dafont.com/

Great for this kind of thing because you can search by category. "Horror," for example:

@ehBeth,
Thanks so much.

Like I said -- I don't really work with text much. I did work in advertising and I always screaming about things being legible but that's about as far as my experience takes me.

I even tried to get out of working with it by visiting the neighborhood scrap-booking store for help today but they didn't have much without flowers and such.

I'm hopeless.

But I at least know what I don't like so that's a start.

I appreciate the help!
