Go buy an external hard drive. You can get a 1TB one, which I guarantee you is more capacity than anytthing you could have gotten five years ago, for $100 or less. Copy your hard drive (i.e. back it up) to the external one. Delete your internal hard drive's contents. Have the old one fixed. Copy the HD back to your laptop. The external is probably going to give you four or five times the capacity to store stuff that you have now.

Good to hear that it was fixed easily.

Now that you've had three or four recommendations to back up your data, and get your computer tuned up, I hope you'll do so.

You can arrange to have the work done in your home by a company like Geek Squad if you are reluctant to leave your machine in a shop.
