It literally picks up everything and even strips paint and patches cracks in the wall. You are not odd for not really wanting anything...sounds like you've already got what you wanted.

Absolutely true, Acq . . . at graduation, the new officers were given the opportuntity try for the branch of service they most wished to join. Usually, that was the cavalry, with the artillery close behind. No one wanted to be infantry if they could avoid it (Grant couldn't), and only a few eccentrics chose unpopular branches--Lee chose the Corps of Engineers, despite having the second highest academic record at the USMA at that time.

What we think of when we say engineer, and the classic military meaning, are quite different, however.
