People come to philosophize:
- to gain knowledge
- to illuminate knowledge which may seem baffeling
- to seek answers to a specific problem
- to discover ourselves
- to discover new ways
- to exchange information
- to test belives and oppinions
..etc..
Above all, we philosophize to respond -- to give an answer to the world as much as to ourselves regarding who we are in that world. Which is why there is no point in a purely contemplative philosophy.
