Help needed with this Mensa question!

You note it is 1331 miles to EDINBURGH; 1000 miles to CARDIFF; and 512 miles to LONDON. How far is it to BIRMINGHAM?

P.S Must be something to do with vowels and consonants being substituted for numbers but cannot work it out!

Try (2 + 2C - V)^3 where C is the number of consonants, V is the number of vowels.

well from a analytic point of view with patterns
London: 4 c, 2 v = 9^3 (512)
Card: 5 c, 2 v = 10^3 (1000)
Edin 6 c, 3 v = 11^3 (1331)
Bir 7 c, 3 v = 12^3? (1728)

my analysis has nothing to do with consonant and vowels, but a mere pattern recognition lol. gl

I got 13^3 or 2197. 512 is 8^3 so the pattern recognition doesn't work.
