I have a male sheperd malamute mix and a female basset hound both fixed. They frequently will lick each others face mouth ears, etc. The male sometimes will growl and show his teeth, the female will then stop and lay on her side. Is this normal behavior , should I scold him for growling??? The male is 4 and the female is 2. This has never went farther than a growl.
Does the warning stop after she submits? It may be him telling her he's had enough. Are there any other signs of agression, toward the female, other dogs, or people?
@denver58,
It's normal. The female is going beyond the attention the male wants and he shows his displease the way dogs know how. The female then acknowledges his dominate role by displaying a passive behavior.
