I don't get what "under explored or unmet needs". Would you like to rewrite it in more detailed way?

Context:

The goals included identification of critical research areas that represent under explored or unmet needs, and the discussions presented an opportunity for molecular iologists, geneticists, hematologists, infectious disease specialists and immunologists to expand investigations into the manner in which the immune system is regulated and how self-tolerance is established and maintained.

It might be clearer if "under explored" were replaced by "underexplored" or "under-explored". Something which is under-explored has not been sufficiently investigated or examined or researched. An unmet need is a need which has not been met, that is, satisfied.
