I have an older rainsoft water conditioner (bought new in 1980). My water pressure has slown down considerably. I turned on the water in the tub and hit the bypass for the conditioner and it was a considerable amount of difference on the amount of water coming out. Is there anything i can do here other than buy a new unit? We had been noticing what looked like little pieces of gravel in the water but dont see this anymore. Thanks
@hottcake,
Your resins have turned to mush creating a soupy composition causing water to flow through very slowly. I wouldn't bother trying to fix it especially with a valve that old. The sand is the gravel that is breaking up or foriegn matter from the well that the softener is not able to remove.
Do you know your water conditions?

@Andy CWS,
I was told by a rep a couple of years ago. Gonna get a rep back to check it again or take some to the store to have it checked out. Will have to remember to take some that hasnt been thru the conditioner. Thanks for the info as it is very much appreciated.

For best results; Replace the entire softener with a modern, metered softener.
