Would you go to a dentist, lawyer etc. based on what team they followed?

I'm listening to a talk radio station right now, and these 2 commercials were back to back:

first was for an attorney. It said at least twice that she was an Aggie. At the end when the name and phone # was given they said "That's Joan Abramson..."A" as in Aggie, "B" as in blue (their color I suppose).

then, a commerical for a dentist. In this one things were said like "Remember Dr Jones is a good Aggie!" "Ask for your Aggie discount", "For your Aggie denistry needs" (really) and at least a couple more.

I've heard these commercials before, but basically tuned them out.

I would go to someone because they practiced yoga, or something else I did.

Would you?

No, both because i don't practice yoga, and have no reason to assume that the practice of yoga would make a dentist more competent.

@chai2,
Nope. But I might NOT go to a self professed dentist or doctor whose Yankee fanaticism is shown in his or her aggressive reactions to those of the Red Sox Nation. I'd fear for my life even if I didn't openly confess my Bostonian leanings.

@chai2,
Well not if they were an Aggie - but maybe if they were part of Red Sox Nation I would.

Yeah, hearing these commercials actually make me NOT want to go to these people.

@chai2,
Well yeah - I love the Sox.

Actually I was worried once several years ago when the Sox were first heading towards their first World Series win in over 80 years. I had a dentist appointment and the dentist was talking about being up late watching the game. Not something you want to hear when he is preparing a cap for you.

What is an aggie?

There is a dentist here whose business sign and cards are the Oilers insignia, substituted with his practice's name. It's clever however he's probably crossed a copy-write law or two. It wouldn't compel me to go to him, but I'd imagine die hard fans might be swayed.

@chai2,
I coud not possibly have less interest in the fortunes of practitioners
of competitive athletics than I already don 't have.

@Ceili,
It may also be a talking point too when you go into the office.

Wonder what would happen if you found out your dentist/lawyer, etc was a big follower of the evil empire or some enemy of your favorite team...

I don't want to talk to a dentist about anything but my teeth.

@Ceili,
I don't know if Chai (who appears to be ignoring me these days) is referring to this or not, since i don't know where she lives. However, the sports teams of Texas A & M (Agricultural and Mining) Univesity are known as the Aggies.

@chai2,
A dentist what roots for the Red... Red.... Red... that confounded Boston baseball team, never see will he my business if I am aware he's such a despicable character. Why if he learns I'm a lifer for The Yankees (the all time best team ever!) he'd likely most use uncleaned instruments in my mouth and rip my teeth all out. An attorney who likes that treasonous Boston team he why throw my case and get me jailed. Same if they are Patriots fans (when living in Vermont my dental care was quite neglected).

Actually I have never talked sports with medical teams.

You should stay away from Aggie fans then.

When groups of strangers compete
to see who can run around in circles in the grass
more skillfully than others, I have no preference
qua which group of strangers will triumf.
