I AM THE SECOND WIFE, I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WOULD I GET MY CURRENT HUSBAND'S SOCIAL SECURITY BENEFITS AND RETIREMENT?
call social security, they have the answers
@regina38,
you must have been married for 10 years prior to his demise...
@Rockhead,
oh, and please don't shout at us with capital letters.
Yes, if you have been married for 10 years or more.
And if you have an ex husband and he dies, you can collect his SS instead of your current husband's if it's higher, as long as you were married to him for more than 10 years.

That depends. Is the first wife still married to him?
Well, now wait a minute.
You may be entitled to collect against his SS benefits if they're higher than yours and you've been married for at least 10 years, but that doesn't necessarily entitle you to his pension or other retirement savings. His divorce decree will stipulate whether or not his first wife shares those benefits. Actually, I think it has to stipulate that she doesn't get to share them and the default is that she does. Joe?
@JPB,
I really don't know anything about SS benefits. The other posters here obviously have a better grasp of this than I do. I'm just concerned that this might be one of those Utah "second wives."

Of course, that goes without saying.
