@chai2,
It would appear you have misinterpreted what you believe to be a simplistic query on my part; as such you appear to have a penchant for literalism, absolutism, and judgmentalism. However in the interests of consideration due, I will suggest that it's as plausible you're simply confused.

If you wish to further expand on your prior text by all means please do (entertainment value if nothing else) however as a gentle reminder you may wish to read the following: "This is a thread about things you wanna buy, but likely can’t really justify, but might well have fun with, but then again might well collect dust!"

Then again you may not wish to read the prior.

@Chumly,
Don't get your panties up your crack chumly.

If you have to work so hard to justify anything, it's not worth it.

@dyslexia,
Now if I can only get a 6 figure job so I can afford the car, the insurance, the gas, the maintenance, and the parking fees then I'd get it. Still wouldn't drive the car most weeks as I'd rely on public transportation to get back and forth from work. The car would be for traveling to Boston and other long distance trips.

@tsarstepan,
They are interesting machines alright! I bought a Miata instead but the two have a certain kinship in the fun-frivolous-but-desirable category.

@chai2,
My wife still wears the lacy butt floss variety, she is in amazing shape especially considering she's 59, in fact it's all so downright earth shatteringly fun, frivolous and desirable I might have to get her some for a present.

I love books so much, if I had the money I'd buy Powells bookstore.

@Chumly,
I can never remember if I should "Reply to All" or just simply hit a "Reply" button. I need an Instruction Book whenever I log into A2K.
On this subject on "Should I buy it? (Consumerism, Lusting After, Desire) maybe the book "Buyology: Truth and Lies About What We Buy" might be of some use. I'm often finding myself justifying my purchases. Sometimes I put off buying things, giving myself time to "cool off". If I'm still 'hot for it' then I figure I have justified, to myself, that I need the item rather than just want it. Sadly I've often rushed in and regretted it afterward. Fortunately I have learned to cool my heels. IMHO if you can afford it, buy it. You certainly can't take it with you. I have to count my cents, so need to save up for any special purchase/s. The last good purchase I made was a HD Set Top Box that came with a 1TB of hard drive space so I can record TV programs. I waited 3 months for it, and love it to bits. It took the place of my old VCR and I no longer have to use VHS tapes that used to get chewed up in the VCR machine.

Good choice with the PVR, and interesting suggestion as to the book.

@drillersmum,
'Reply" is for times when you respond to a specific post, as I am to yours. If everything worked as planned, it would avoid those nested quotes.

Your cooling off period works for me. By the time I'm cooled off, the money is gone anyway.

@roger,
I am betting not all a2kers know that clicking on the name in tiny blue* letters above someone's reply will bring them to the exact post that is being replied to...

* that may be green, I can't tell

Re splurging on various products, mine happens at the grocery store these days.

@Reyn,
Sorry for not getting back to you sooner, I'm not sure yet which camera might be better for my application (homemade document camera). If you're interested in what I would be doing have look-see here! http://www.instructables.com/id/Document-camera-for-art-teachers/

It's all in the name of better education, and I am paying all the costs myself (ouch!)
