@spidergal,
It is a joy to come across something you like through a random mention. Makes you think how much other great stuff must be out there that you are missing because of the time and place you live in. So glad it's giving you pleasure.

Heard bits of Danny Cohen's 'Dannyland' album for the first time this week. Definitely odd in the same realm as Nick Cave and Tom Waits. He has a number of distinctive voices, sometimes he even sounds like early 70s Mick Jagger. Don't know much about him but it's kind of interesting outsider music:

I do like a bit of post-rock so when this came up while i was in random cataloguing mode I was pretty impressed. Then I figured out they were Australian! And their stuff is a free and legal Creative Commons licenced download from http://www.archive.org/details/LostChildren059
There's a link to their myspace page, their still gigging and their influences tell the story.

Listening to some tracks from Phlow Magazine's 'Their Finest Hour' series

This from Henrik Jose aka Bliss does a nice line in cool warmth

I've been growing an affection for Alt-Country that started with Jim White.

I like this.

@hingehead,
Uncut magazine provides sampler cd's, they've done quite a few alt-country/americana discs over the years, the first one i came across ('97?) had weightless again on it, great tune, their live album from schaubs(?) in chicago is a treasure and their cover of sunday morning coming down is sublime

maybe i'll sort through my uncut discs and put together a sampler to share with the crowd

@djjd62,
That would be most cool Deej

I did download that Magic Dragon thing you did but I'm having trouble finding it again! - I think I need to get WMP to do a library rebuild ( the perils of moving an external drive between work and home). And there's way too much stuff to get a reindex done in less than 48 hours. Too much music is barely enough!

Okay, I haven't just discovered it. It's one of my all-time fave songs. It's Hindi, so you won't get the hang of it, but the Latin-type music is worth a try. And I totally adore the video, which was shot in Cuba. One of the best Indian pop tracks ever, I would say.

Oh, and the singer - Lucky Ali - is just terrific!

@eurocelticyankee,
That's absolutely brill! I'm ordering the album now - hope it helps the ailing tiger!

Damn scratch that - every online vendor wants me to create an account - isn't my freaking credit card and address enough? I'll put it on an amazon wish list and get it in the new year.

God this achingly sweet - reminds me of Sarah Blasko's version of Flame Trees -which I'll go hunt down for you...

I love the winsome ruefulness this stirs up emotionally.
