Wow.....awesome voice ... meaningful words to her songs. I clicked your link because I love music and was curious to hear the voice behind the name that I had never heard of before. I'm glad I did. Though I must say that I feel pretty stupid for not ever having heard her.
She's didn't have one song on there that I could stop listening to before the end. I especially like the her song "Grow."
Hey.....thanks for sharin'!

Great tune, Region.
Dave Van Ronk has been blowing my mind tonight. On a whim I just decided to download a few of his tunes. I was only peripherally aware of him, as a fixture of the 60s Village folk scene. But holy crap. What a voice. What sincerity. In particular I was listening to a live version of Both Sides Now.
You know, white boys trying to sing the blues often grate on my nerves. But there's no posturing in Dave Van Ronk's voice.
Get a copy of Van Ronk's autobiography "The Mayor Of McDougal Street" for an interesting look at the origins of the folkie scene. Dylan's first album was full of Van Ronk arrangements, especially House Of The Rising Sun

I'm listening to Polemic, a Slovak ska/electro/punkrock/whatever band. They started as a straight up classic ska band, pretty good one too, but over the years brought in more and more experimenting, and now are truly fantastic. They, too, have a myspace page, like everybody and their mother and her dog these days, but it's mostly older stuff. Oh well.
Got old PJ Harvey roiling in the backgroun.
Happy Sunday. Have to go to some stupid ceremony later, trying to get my beer on for it. And doing so ironing.
(Are ye familiar with Gogol Bordello, Dag? Nutty Ukrainian punkish singer, band mainly Israeli musicians, all transplanted to New York.)
sounds like my cup of coffee. gotta look'em up!
Their signature song ("start wearing purple") rolled over the closing credits of Everything Is Illuminated...
....aaand they have a myspace page. love the 'start wearing puprple'. just my accent, too.
I'm a big fan of the Gypsy Punk album.
i neverr neverrr wanna be young again!

They put on a hell of a live show, too. Saw 'em in December.
Wait, this conversatin sounds familiar.
I missed em at a tiny venue here in town last year.
They'll probably never come back.

bummer. i'm gonna be in new york, but can't figure out from their website when and where they're playing... there's some gypsy ska event every thursday, but don't know if that's them, or one of them, or their friends or what... might as well check it out though.
I like that "start wearing purple" song a lot, the others are too far out for me.The one ehbeth mentioned - Zaki Ibrahim - she's got a great voice,
"Joy" is my favorite song right now.
I am listening to Zaki Ibrahim this instant.
The Stones, "It's All Over Now".
