I meant Allison, of course.

I make the correction in case anyone reading who is unfamiliar with Mr. Costello wisely decides to download the song.

The early years...a punk Buddy Holly meets Herman Munster

While I've got you on the phone Garg...what do you make of the Lyrics?

Alison

Well, it's so funny to be seein ya after so long girl
by the way look, I understand
that you are not impressed
I heard you let that little friend of mine
take off your party dress

I'm not gonna get too sentimental
like those other sticky valentines
cuz I don't know if you were lovin somebody
I only hope it wasn't mine

Alison
I know this world is killin you
oh, Alison
my aim is true

well i see ya got a husband now
but did you leave your pretty fingers
lying in the wedding cake

you used to hold him right in your hand
but it took all he could take

sometimes I wish that I could stop you from talkin
when I hear the silly things you say
I think somebody better put out the big light
cuz I can't stand to see you this way

Ya can't do any better than that. Stand Getz is outstanding.

(I'm waiting for a live inetrview with Kurt Elling on my local NPR station. He's appearing in Boston this weekend and is scheduled to drop in on Eric Jackson's 'Eric in the Evening' jazz program on WGBH-FM later on.)

man,I just stumbled on a really great album by Queen Latifah. I thought she was a rap queen but her Dana Owens album is a really lovely jazz album. She is up there with the great singers. (Dana Owens is her real name)

Do you like her rendition of "California Dreaming?" It got alot of airplay but I wonder how many realized that Dana Owens is Queen Latifah?

Right now I'm listening to "Brown Sugar." Very Happy

California Dreaming is a beautiful song...but it's so connected to The Mamas And The Papas that it's hard to reinterpret it...she does a nice job though. What knocked me out was her rendition of "Lush Life". That's a very difficult song to sing

Great tune, Region.

Dave Van Ronk has been blowing my mind tonight. On a whim I just decided to download a few of his tunes. I was only peripherally aware of him, as a fixture of the 60s Village folk scene. But holy crap. What a voice. What sincerity. In particular I was listening to a live version of Both Sides Now.

You know, white boys trying to sing the blues often grate on my nerves. But there's no posturing in Dave Van Ronk's voice.

MJB- Mary Jane Blige's collection

I've always loved her voice -I like her range and smooothness, but most of all the way that you can feel every note she sings-she emotes very honestly and purely when she sings.

Her interpretation of "One" by and with U2 (they play the music- she sings) is a tour de force. In my mind, that song will never belong to anyone else but her now-she makes it her own anthem.
