She's on DNTO with Jim Cuddy right now. Powerful voice. Love it. The reviews compare her to Emmylou Harris/Kathleen Edwards. I think there's more to her voice than either of them has.

The Blind Boys of Alabama. They're performing at the Berklee Performance Center in Boston tonight. Unfortunately, seats all sold out by now. But WGBH-FM just had Jimmy Carter, one of the founders of the group, visiting the studios and being interviwed on "Folk on 'GBH" and they're playing a whole lotta their sides. Tomorrow night the Blind Boys will be in Burlington, VT. They're going on to Montreal at some point soon so you might want to look into that and catch them, ehBeth.

(Boston's almost easier to get to than Montreal)

I'm a fan of the BB's, will keep an ear out for them getting to Tranna sometime again.

Congo Square by Tom Principato

We were in the same grade in high school...i used to catch him at all the parties ...man was I jealous...he plays a mean guitar

a description of New Orleans' Congo Square in the early 1800's:

.."Town's folk would gather around the square on Sunday afternoons to witness what went on inside the square. In 1819, a visitor to the city, Benjamin Latrobe wrote about the celebrations in his journal. He was amazed at the sight of five or six hundred unsupervised slaves that had assembled for dancing. He described them as ornamented with a number of tails of the smaller wild beasts, with fringes, ribbons, little bells, and shells and balls, jimgling and flirting about the performers legs and arms. The women, one onlooker reported wore, each according to her means, the newest fashions in silk, gauze, muslin, percale dresses. And the males covered themselves in oriental and Indian dress and covered themselves only with a sash of the same sort wrapped around the body.. except for that they go naked.

I love Marvin Gaye, EOE. Just as Panz can't believe Diana married Elvis, it's difficult to believe that Marvin's father shot him.

Not listening to anything right now except the melodies of my mine.

Unfortunately, the Gaye's are a very sad story about the devastation of drug abuse, both street (Marvin Jr.) and prescribed (Marvin Sr.) varieties.

ps. Diana who married Elvis who?

Man, if you wrote "Allisoo," you could have any woman you wanted.

A whole evening with Ella FitzGerald. My favorite jazz radio program is "Eric in the Evening" on WGBH-FM (89.7) in Boston. Tonight Eric Jackson is devoting the entire show -- 8 p.m. to midnight -- to Ella. It's streaming on the 'net, if you're interested. GBH.org.

I meant Allison, of course.

I make the correction in case anyone reading who is unfamiliar with Mr. Costello wisely decides to download the song.
