I got Civilization 3 the other day, and I suck at it. So if anyone has tips, I'm all ears.

Tons of fun, just frustrating because it's hard.

I expected it to be like Age of Empires, but it isn't. It is still fun.

I lost interest in Age of Empires pretty quickly. Ceasar kept me iterested for a little longer but, they all loose their touch eventually.

You are right, but Age of Empires took about 3 years to become dull to me.

How do you keep from running out of gold in the first 10 minutes of the game?

You need to raise taxes to not run out of gold.

In the beginnign settlers are they key, you need to make as many as you can possibly support without getting killed (for not producing soldiers).

On the easier levels the other civs won't attack you just because you are weak, and if you make barbarians sedentary you won't have to deal with them either.

What do I do if the citizens start getting pissed off over the tax increase?

Well you need to balance it. Temples are good in the beginning.

What level are you playing at?

Chieftain Embarrassed

But I think I might have it under control.......the first 3 games I played were as the Mongols, and I did terrible. But the last 2 were as the Greeks, and I was the powerhouse of the map. But on the Greek ones I used more settlers, so maybe that is it.

Also is there a superior Civ? or are they all equal?

They are not all equal, they each have different strangths.

The Babylonians are well balanced.

I usually modify all the civilization settings though. I prefer to give myself key advantages and then play at the hardsest setting.

BTW, turn the city governors on and automate the workers, I bet the govenors make your cities happier. I never micromanage the production within the city limits.

If you are playing on a continent map, an important thing to do is to reach the other continents and discover the civilizations, then use trading with them as a way to leap forward.

What style do you play? I tend to work on trade science etc and wait till modern times to fight (I don't like wars without the modern weapons).

If you stay ahead of everyone in science you can have them all paying you for sharing the science. I usually ahve the other civs paying me over 1000 gold a turn.
