Affirmative Action?

It's not a "Past Injustice" it's current and on going, blacks and other minorities are often victims of quiet racism. I have no issue with affirmative action unless it's sole purpose is to exclude white males/females.

The same case could be made for both sides. Whites are also currently discriminated against, maybe more than minorities, and not 'quietly' all the time either. Whether or not it's sole purpose is to exclude white people, that's it's effect. I frankly don't feel the need to pay for something neither my ancestors, nor my specific race, did. My ancestors in America were quite as much discriminated against, even more in the case of wages in the North, but are today clumped together with WASPs as 'white' and forced to pay the price for affirmative action where the ridiculous policy is instituted.Such things should be based on qualification, not vague racial injustices decades old.

It's the farthest thing from fair. How does helping someone based on their skin color instead of their ability to do the job sound fair?

Yea but if you take it away can you image the screaming from the left? Remember they are more "Tolerant" and "Sincere" that the right. It's okay to have Black Associations, Gay rights groups, Women's movements/ass. and Religious Organizations but if the "Whites" tried anything similar and formed a "Protect the honkey" the label "Racist" will be forever branded upon us. So practice Affirmative Action but you don't have to really believe in it.

The next time you fill out a job application write in the Race line "Black", what are they going to make you haul in your ancestors to disprove you are black? When it comes to sex write female, are they going to ask you how that's possible? NO. If nothing else you'll be amused by the entire process.

Let me think about Afirmative action, these "minorities" suffered injustices which granted were inhumane in the most part, and now they want to do the same? Is it just me or does that sound very much like revenge?

Well, mabey I really should have had the poll as "Do you care what the left will think(if you are not on th left) if we outlaw affirmative action?" Either way, someone's gonna hate you no matter what you do, might as well be the crazy people.:p

A Muslim cleric who preaches hate is overlooked, as it is his 'human rights' and if a white Brit says anything, or raises their heads above the parapet, they are shot down and accused of racism.

I completely accept we have not always been 'whiter than white' Very Happy

in our dealings with Black people here, but those days went decades ago. Now the 'Nanny State' is putting everyone's rights above our own, so why the imbalance, why not use common-sense and understand the TRUE meaning of equality.

The question in the pole asks "is affirmative action fair?"
I don't believe that it was ever meant to be fair. It was an action meant to create some balance in the hiring of minority employees and acceptance into educational institutions. The only problem is, two wrongs don't equal a right.
Racism is wrong, and reverse racism is wrong.
When a person makes excuses as to why they cannot succeed, like blaming sickness, drugs, booze, racism, poverty, etc...... It will forever define the image that others have of them. An image that is negative and limiting. Does an employer wish to hire such a person? Does an education institution wish to have such alumni?
If I were a minority I would not wish to have my achievements tarnished by the specter of affirmative action. Respect begins with ones self.
To have the image, that affirmative action portrays, applied to an entire generation of minorities is in effect a form of racism in and of itself.

exactly...you are what you think...thoughts become reality...there is a wonderful Texan, Bill Ferguson who writes and produces some insights along these lines. I went to his seminar in Texas last year. And his common sense approach to the law of attraction and taking responsiblity just made me open my eyes to exactly what you are saying.

That cracked me up, but the left/left don't know their crazy and if we told them it was so they'd call us haters and racist. Oh wait they already call me that on a Canadian forum. Maybe we should start a club.

Anne your opinions on what's happening in Europe mirror my own, it's refreshing to see someone speak out. On Canadian forums the English immigrants deny there is even a problem with radical Islam. They're socialist immigrants thou.:dunno:

Liberia because some folks decided they wanted to relocate near the "homeland" of their ancestors . An experiment designed and funded by Black leaders . The experiment succeeded for only a few .
