The question in the pole asks "is affirmative action fair?"
I don't believe that it was ever meant to be fair. It was an action meant to create some balance in the hiring of minority employees and acceptance into educational institutions. The only problem is, two wrongs don't equal a right.
Racism is wrong, and reverse racism is wrong.
When a person makes excuses as to why they cannot succeed, like blaming sickness, drugs, booze, racism, poverty, etc...... It will forever define the image that others have of them. An image that is negative and limiting. Does an employer wish to hire such a person? Does an education institution wish to have such alumni?
If I were a minority I would not wish to have my achievements tarnished by the specter of affirmative action. Respect begins with ones self.
To have the image, that affirmative action portrays, applied to an entire generation of minorities is in effect a form of racism in and of itself.
